Okay, Shoshana Kaufman, you might be the perfect one to run this experiment. I’m a former teacher; I work with teens as a coach today. I’ve found that THE greatest thing kids need is to feel heard, to feel like someone is truly interested in THEM.

My theory: those kids you mention — the ones who are most emotionally damaged — I wonder if you have room in your curriculum to prioritize just…giving them a chance to talk, or write, about whatever is on their mind. And to ensure they receive simple validation that says, “I really hear you.”

My hunch is that, if this most basic need is met, they’ll start to soften their stance about the people Trump schools his followers to hate…and eventually, they might find their way to a more positive hero.
