The majority of Trump voters I hear from in response to my writing offer a simple retort: “You’re just mad that Hillary didn’t win.” Some mention, as you did, her… “connection” to Bill Clinton’s (consensual) sex acts with a grown woman. Others do the “but her emails” thing.

These responses always strike me as logically flimsy. The first, because a woman’s choosing to stay married to a man who cheats does not make her a cheater, a sexual assaulter. By no stretch of any imagination does that make her parallel to Trump in his status as a sexual predator.

The second, at this point, gives me a laugh. In the face of Jared and Ivanka’s security clearance scandals, I would think the Hill-haters would want to tuck that old song into the hope chest, never again letting it see the light of day.

I appreciate your closing line about a candidate’s proposing good programs. There are certainly Democratic candidates offering such programming already. What a world it would be if the majority of voters chose our collective future in 2020, instead of a desire to return to a hateful, bigoted past.
